A guide to getting started

Often, the hardest part about playing in BAM Jam is simply getting started. Here are a few tips to help you get ready for Idaho's biggest tournament this August.
  1. Put Friday and Saturday, August 5-6, 2011 down on your schedule. Obviously to play, you have to be available.
  2. Pick your teammates. As a captain, you get the privilege of picking the players you want to play with. Start thinking about the types of players you want around you. Do you want to win? Do you want to have fun? Do you need a ride to the tournament? Potential teammates are everywhere: at your school, work, church or even a hoops team you are on right now.
  3. Pick your division. The great thing about BAM Jam is there is a division for everyone. Whether you are the ultra competitive player or just trying to get some exercise without pulling your hammy, you can find the level of competition that is right for you. Check out our "Bracketing 101" guide by clicking here
  4. Get registered. You have your team and you know what division you want to play in. Now, make sure you get your team's spot secured so that you can worry about other things...like stretching out that hamstring!
Hopefully this helps you get set for the tourney. Work on that crossover, tune up your shot and get ready for a great weekend of hoops!

Spring BAM Jam registration is open

It's back! Spring BAM Jam will once again take over Taco Bell Arena on Saturday, March 12, 2011. Registration is now open so get your teammates together and get your team registered. <CLICK HERE FOR REGISTRATION>

Remember: last spring this tournament was sold out so make sure you get your team registration in before this one fills up. We will again have all the great features from last year including all the NCAA conference tournament games live, shooting contests, the player's lounge and more.

Not sure about the tournament? Can't quite remember what the spring version is like? No problem! Check out this video from STADIA for a quick refresher. Then get back to the gym and work on that jumper!

BAM Jam gets national attention

In case you missed it, SLAM Magazine was in Boise to cover this summer's tournament. The article and the tournament are getting great reviews.

Check it out for yourself by clicking here or going to www.slamonline.com/online/media/slam-tv/2010/08/a-perfect-beginning/

There is also a great video that goes through the tournament, gives some interviews and does a great job of capturing the feel of BAM Jam.

A big thanks to Ryne Nelson, the online editor of SLAM, for coming out from New York and checking out the event.

BAM Jam Champions - 2010 Summer

Here are the bracket champions from the 2010 Fast Eddy's Summer BAM JAM. Each bracket champion received champions T-shirts, thanks to Flashpoint Screen Printing (click here to check 'em out).

Overall Men's Elite Champions - STADIA Legends
The STADIA Legends (Chris Allen, Ryan McCarthy, Dan Mcfaul, Wade Joseph) are the first BAM Jam team to repeat as Men's Elite Champions. They won their first title in 2008. There were two men's elite brackets. The two bracket champions then faced off in the Finals for the overall championship.

The finals locked up Bodybuilding.com and STADIA. Bodybuilding.com cruised through their bracket, winning all four of their first games. STADIA, however, took a much different route. Thye lost their first game of the tournament and had to battle their way through the loser's bracket.  But 8 straight wins later they made it to the finals. And after win number 9 they captured the 2010 title.

But can their outdoor success translate to indoors? We'll see next Spring when BAM Jam goes back indoors for the spring version. There is very limited room so if you would like advanced noticed and a chance to get your team in before the general public, send an email to service@idahoselect.org with the subject: Spring BAM Jam Registration to be put on our early registration list.

I missed the registration deadline, now what?

If you wanted to get a team into this year's BAM Jam but missed the normal registration deadline, you may be in luck.  Some of our smaller brackets may have room for another team or two. Our bracketing team starts this weekend building the tournament brackets. In the meantime, here's what you can do to get in.

First, get signed up! The bracket team will finish up by Tuesday so you have to be in by then. Go to www.bamjamboise.com, click on play and complete the team registration process. Please note, with late registration comes the standard late registration fee of $25.

Second, look for your verification email immediately after you have signed up. If you don't get it within 10 minutes check your junk or spam folder. If you check your spam and junk folders and don't see it in there, send an email to service@idahoselect.org with your team name and captain and we will check on it for you.

Third, be patient. We will do our best to get you into your bracket of choice if there is room. But this could take a couple days so give us a chance to get it in.

Fourth, check your email again. If we are able to get you in to the tournament you will get an email with your TEAM NUMBER and check in information. If we couldn't get you in we will send you an email letting you know and that we are refunding your entry fee.

Out of town participants - Hotel Deals

Just a reminder, if you are coming from out of town and are looking for an affordable and great hotel right in the middle of the tournament, be sure to check out the Hampton Inn Downtown.

Click here to visit their webpage.

Clinic of Champions

If you are looking for an edge when you compete in 3 on 3 tournaments, here is your chance to learn from the guys that have proven they are the best in the business.

The Clinic of Champions features the teachings of Hoopfest and BAM Jam finalists and champions. You will be given the secrets and strategies that they used to give them an edge and gain success. Learn when to come off screens, utilize isolation, overcome mismatches and much more. We will also have court monitors there as well so you can get a feel for how the BAM Jam tournament is run.

Players get to learn from:
Matt Bauscher - Boise State, Pro in Holland, Hoopfest and BAM Jam finalist
Ryan McCarthy - NNU, women's coach at NNU, Hoopfest and BAM Jam Champion
Chris Allen - LCSC, Hoopfest and BAM Jam Champion
Justin McCarthy - C of I, Pro in New Zealand, Hoopfest finalist
Jon DeWolfe - U of W, Hoopfest finalist
Clint Hordemann - BSU, Hoopfest finalist

The clinic is Wednesday, August 4 at the outdoor courts at Timberline High School from 6:00-8:00 PM. The cost is $20 per player or bring your whole BAM Jam team of 4 for only $70. Players can register at the door and registration will start at 5:30 PM. We only have room for 100 players so we recommend being there right at 5:30 PM.

Please make sure that you bring a parent with you to sign a waiver. Players should also bring their own basketball that they can use outdoors.

Win a FREE 2010 Dodge Ram 1500

Thanks to Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Dodge, three lucky participants will get a chance to win a brand new 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck in the Larry H. Miller Half Court Shootout.

To qualify, contestants will need to participate in a preliminary event at one of the locations listed below. Qualifying is easy. Make a $5 donation (proceeds go to the Boys & Girls Club and Idaho Select Basketball) and then make a lay-up, free throw and 3-pointer in :18 seconds or less.

Everyone that participates will get a free Frisbee and those that qualify will also get a free "Qualifier" T-shirt.

Then, at the Idaho Trust Bank Center Court on Saturday, August 7, three names will be selected from the qualifiers. The first to make a lay-up, free throw, 3-pointer and half court shot will drive away in a brand new truck! All three will leave as a winner as they will each receive a gift certificate that is good for 4 oil changes and 2 tire rotations, valued at $100.

Qualifying locations and times
Saturday, July 31 - At the Boise Hawks game (6:00-8:00 PM)
Wednesday, August 4 - At the Clinic of Champions, Timberline High School (6:00-8:00 PM)
Thursday, August 5 - At Sports Authority during team check in (4:00-8:00 PM)
Friday, August 6 - At the BAM Jam tournament (5:00-9:00 PM)
Saturday, August 7 - At the BAM Jam tournament (8:00 AM-Noon)

New York to Boise - BAM Jam getting national exposure

We have confirmed that SLAM Magazine will be coming in from New York to cover this summer's Fast Eddy's BAM Jam. Ryne Hansen, SLAM's online editor will be making the trip out to Boise for the event.

If you've wanted to be in the industry's leading basketball magazine, this could be your chance. Elite teams, get your game together. If you can fly, get your creativity ready for the POWERADE Slam Dunk Championship. If you can shoot, dial in your range for the Mybullfrog 3-Point Challenge. Winners could get more than just great prizes. SLAM is waiting!

Remember, the normal registration deadline is July 30.

7.21.2010

Team Check In Information

This year's team check in will take place at The Sports Authority parking lot, located at 1301 N. Milwaukee in Boise. It will be on Thursday, August 5 from 4-8pm. More details will come as we get closer to the event. This is mandatory for all teams to attend, though you can send just one team representative if you would like. At check in you will get updated brackets, your team's t-shirts plus a coupon package worth over $100. You can also make last minute player changes as well (see the details on the official Player Change form here for restrictions). We recommend bringing the entire team and your family.

This year, we are turning the team check in into more of a festival for participants, fans and family. There will be fun things for the whole family, including a chance to win a new 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 from Larry H. Miller Chrysler Jeep Dodge. Also at the check in there will be a preliminary round of the Mybullfrog 3-Point Challenge.

Plus, there going to be music and some great food.

7.20.2010

And in this issue...

The most current issue of SLAM is now out and, as we eluded to earlier, BAM Jam is featured inside. Flip to page 82 in their Tech Corner with Josh Childress. It features the Greek League Finals, police, tear gas and how a home team crowd actually cost their team a title.

If you are interested in getting SLAM at over half off their best deals, be sure to stop by the BAM Jam merchandise booth at the tournament. Matt and his STADIA team will be sure to take care of you!

7.17.2010

More event details

Here's how things are shaping up for this year's tournament. All teams will get a 3 game guarantee and after that it depends on how long you keep winning. Every team member will also get a BAM Jam participant t-shirt and each team will be receiving a team packet with all kinds of cool free stuff and coupons for discounts.

Games for each bracket will start at 5:00 PM on Friday, August 6 and will finish around 9:00 PM. We will start up again with games on Saturday at 8:00 AM and the final games will wrap up around 6:00 PM.

The Idaho Trust Bank Center Court will feature elite games all tournament long. On Saturday there will also be the MyBullFrog 3-point Shootout, the Powerade Slam Dunk Championship and the Larry Miller 1/2 court truck giveaway. More details will be coming soon on these.

And we are proud to announce that Fast Eddy's will again be our title sponsor. If you recall, Fast Eddy's sponsored last spring's BAM Jam (check out this video from STADIA TV, Click Here).

If you having yet registered your team, you will want to get that done ASAP. Normal registration closes July 30.  Team check in will be on Thursday, August 5 likely from 4-8pm at Sports Authority in Boise off of Milwaukee.

Team Captains - please read

Just a reminder, once you have registered your team the team captain (also listed as Player 1) should be getting a verification email with all of your team's information. It is critical that you read this information carefully and make any changes necessary.

The most critical items are: team gender, team age and team competition level. These items determine which bracket you are in and once the tournament starts they cannot be changed.

If you have not yet received this email check your spam or junk folder, as they will sometimes end up in there. After you have checked these folders, if they are not there then send an email to service@idahoselect.org with your name and your team's name. We will go in and try to find it from there!

Brackets are Posted

It took us most the night but we now have brackets posted online at www.idahoselect.org/brackets.shtml. Please keep in mind that these are tentative. The final brackets will be given out at team check in on Thursday, March 11 at the Port of Subs on Benjamin and Emerald in Boise from 4-8 PM.

Teams, it is mandatory for you to check in at the Port of Subs. Don't worry, they have a special $5.99 foot long special menu for us! At team check in you will not only get your final brackets but also your team t-shirts and you can make final player changes. Bring cash for the changes because we won't be able to take credit cards.

If you see a problem with the bracket you are in please send an email to jmdewolfe@gmail.com and cc: vince@idahoselect.org.

3.09.2010

Teams that are currently registered

Here is a list of team names that have registered and paid for this Saturday's tournament as of March 8, 2010 at 10:00 AM. If you are not on this list then we likely do not have your registration or it was sent in after 10:00 AM on March 8. All team captains will have received an email with check in information by 5:30 PM on March 9. If you didn't receive an email and you believe that you are registered, check your junk or spam folders for vince@idahoselect.org.

If you believe that your team should be on the list below there are few scenarios. First, sometimes team names had to be changed to the captain's last name, so check that. Second, there could have been a fluke and it didn't go through. Send an email to service@idahoselect.org ASAO! Third, your team captain didn't get the team registered. We have about two or three openings left so if you want in, sign up by 6:00 PM tonight and we'll do our best. If we can't get you in we'll refund your money.

Details for registered teams

For all registered teams, please note following.

Verification Email - just a reminder, you should have received a verification email with all your team's information. Please verify that this information is correct and let us know if there are any changes. If you have not received an email, please first check your spam or junk folders as it may have ended up in there. If you check your junk folder and it's not in there, send an email to service@idahoselect.org with your team name and captain's name and we'll have it resent to you.

Player Changes - if you have a player that needs to be added, deleted or replaced you must complete a Player Change Form. The form is available under the "Play" link on the website. Remember, if you are caught playing with a player that is not on your roster your team may be disqualified. An example would be if you have three players on your original roster but play with a fourth player that you have not officially added. This is critical so that our tournament remains insured.

Upcoming Schedule - on Monday or Tuesday you will receive a confirmation email with details about the tournament and team check-in. More than likely schedules will be out on Wednesday night. Team check-in will be on Thursday afternoon/evening at a location TBA. Bracket games will start Saturday at 8am.

The biggest showcase camp in the Northwest is also in Boise

You may have heard of the Junior Phenom Camp. It's the premier showcase camp for 5th-8th grade boys. But did you know that it is also being held in Boise, ID? That's right, the Northwest's biggest showcase camp will be held at Borah High School on April 1-3.

www.idahojuniorphenom.com

The camp is for boys that are currently in the 5th-8th grades. Players from Washington, Oregon, Utah and Idaho have already registered. This camp is a regional qualifier with the top players in each class receiving an invitation to the prestigious National Phenom Camp in San Diego this summer.

But the camp goes beyond simply providing a platform to showcase your talents. It also integrates skill development, physical training and educational sessions to make every basketball player better. Check out what this parent had to say about it.

"The Junior Phenom Program is one of the best fundamental and showcase programs that my son has attended-anywhere. The coaching staff at the Idaho camp does a fantastic..." click here to read the rest or send the parent an email.

Check out www.idahojuniorphenom.com and see what all the talk is about. Spots are starting to fill fast so don't miss your chance to be a part of this special event!

Team Captains! Please read

Just a reminder, if you are the team captain (Player 1 on the registration form) you should receive a team verification email. It is absolutely critical that you review the information in this email and make any corrections necessary.

The most important items: be sure that your team is in the correct age group (youth, high school or adult), gender (male, female or co-ed), team height (N/A for youth, 6'0 and under, 6'0 and over) and division (youth, recreational, competitive or elite).

From there be sure that your team members all meet the requirements of your division (if you are in a high school division all players should be in high school, if you are in a co-ed gender bracket you should have at least one boy or girl, if you are 6'0 and under everyone should be under 6'0, etc.)

This is so important because this is how we bracket all teams. What may seem like a simple typo could affect the teams you play against. We rely on your accuracy to evenly match up teams.

If you see a mistake, simply respond to the email with the corrections. We'll take if from there.

If you have not received a verification email (it should be sent to you within 10 minutes of completing your registration) please send an email to service@idahoselect.org with your team name, captain's name and captain's email address.

Other information that is important: Player's 2-4 email addresses (BAM Jam does all communication through email so this should be accurate) and team t-shirt sizes.

Other notes: if you need to add/delete/change a player you can do so via the "PLAYER CHANGE" form available under the "Play" link on the main page.

The normal registration deadline is March 5. However, we are currently on pace to sell out early so if you are considering getting a team in, you may want to register ASAP. The Fast Eddy's BAM Jam is March 13 at Taco Bell Arena.
