Thank You!

With the 2009 BAM Jam completed and a day to reflect on the event, there is no doubt that this community is the best!

First, thanks to all the volunteers that made this happen. While there are too many to recognize individually, it took a huge effort from all of the BAM Jam operational units. The set up crew was amazing and their creative solutions to a wet set up were crucial. We know you are probably still soaked to the bone! The check in team at Piper Pub, Jacksons/Fast Eddy's Master Scoreboard, volunteer check in, BAM Jam Lounge in the 8th Street Mareketplace, court monitors and marshals, medical and hydration stations, the BAM Jam Store, Regence BlueShield Information booth, LeMaster Daniels contest courts, tear down and clean up crews and our booth set up teams were incredible. Your time, energy and passion were vital to the event's success!

Second, the BAM Jam sponsors were crucial to making this happen. To those that were on board from the start last year and the new sponsors that joined us this year, your support and assistance allowed this great event to take place.

And of course, thank you to all the participants that hung in there through the early rain and finished in the bright beautiful sunshine! You did amazing and, regardless of your final record, you are all champions just for finishing. We look forward to improving this event for you next year (August 6-7) and continuing to make BAM Jam an event you can be proud of!

If you have experienced any problems during this time frame, feel free to send an email to to see if your team was registered. We will continue to monitor this issue until it is resolved.

Thanks for your patience!

Late registration and brackets

If teams are still interested in registering for the 2009 BAM Jam, we still have some room. But complete your team registration ASAP (

Now the bracketing begins! We are taking all the teams that have registered and matching them up based on age, ability and desired level of competition. This is actually a somewhat scientific process using spreadsheets and variables. Probably very boring to the average person we sure get into it!

Brackets will be posted Wednesday evening, August 5. Team check in will begin Thursday, August 7. Details coming soon!

Games will start on Friday no earlier than 5:00 PM.

Brackets / Schedule

Brackets are expected to be out the evening of Wednesday, August 5. These will include your team's schedule. Be sure to check back then with a link to the page that will have all of the 2009 BAM Jam brackets.

Youth Center Court

We are so excited to announce that this year, BAM Jam will feature a youth center court! This court will be set up similar to the Idaho Trust Bank Center Court except it is all for the youth teams. If you are a high school team and want to show that you are the best AND want to do it just like the adult teams, sign up to play in the high school elite divisions. Games have officials and the court is full size with the best basket you will find.

But, you have to get your team registered by July 31 to guarantee your spot in this year's BAM Jam.

Media partners helping the cause

Be sure to check out the following media groups as they have been very helpful in the promotion and development of BAM Jam 2009.

Vote for the 2009 Gatorade High School Athletes of the Year

As a member of the Gatorade Athlete of the Year Selection Committee, we get the opportunity to help select the Male and Female athletes of the year. This year, we wanted to extend the opportunity to you to help us choose whom these athletes will be!

Gatorade Athletes of the Year are selected based on three elements: athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character. Former winners include Kevin Love, Dwight Howard, Candace Parker and LeBron James.

Female candidates

On the female side the candidates include Jordan Hasay (Cross Country, California), Anna Jelmini (Track and Field, California), Gina Mancuso (Volleyball, Nebraska), Kenzie Fowler (Softball, Arizona), Skylar Diggins (Basketball, Indiana) and Rachel Quon (Soccer, Illinois). To learn more about each of these athletes, click on their name to look at their resumes.

Male candidates

On the male side the candidates include Dillon Powers (Soccer, Texas), Reed Connor (Cross Country, Texas), Curtis Beach (Track and Field, New Mexico), Brandon Knight (Basketball, Florida), Matt Hobgood (Baseball, California) and Garrett Gilbert (Football, Texas). To learn more about each of these athletes, click on their name to look at their resumes.

The Gold Standard

As we continue to prepare for BAM Jam 2009, the staff took our traditional trip to Spokane, Washington this past weekend for Hoopfest.

Hoopfest once again did something that they have been doing over the last several years, breaking their own attendance record. This year, according to their event guide, Hoopfest had 6,700 participating teams, breaking last year's record and continuing to prove what community support for a great event can do.

With nearly 600 courts on 40 square blocks, Spokane proved that it is the current home court for 3 on 3 basketball.

There were a few things that stood out that are worth noting:
  1. The Nike Center Court was again the spot to be for not only great hoops but also great entertainment. In addition to the games there were dance performances from the Sea Gals (the Seahawks dance team) and men's and women's dunk competitions. The crowds seemed bigger this year than last year.
  2. Their staff continues to incredibly welcoming to our staff. Kathlene Sulivan (in charge of their registration, check in, player changes, etc.) may be one of the coolest people we've met. And Lori and Chad Smith were awesome with the Court Monitor trainings.
  3. The food and booths continue to get better and better. In addition to all the food options, participants also got a chance to get autographs from current Gonzaga players.
  4. The Court Monitors and Court Marshalls continue to be some of the nicest and hardest working volunteers around. They give their weekend and stand in the heat so that the tournament can go on and be successful. You really have to respect that.
So, as we return back to Boise to finish planing for this year's BAM Jam, we do so energized by what we just saw and with a goal of where we someday could be.

Alive After Five

Wednesday night on the Grove in Boise was great. The weather was beautiful and it was fun to get to meet so many of you and give away some prizes.

All in all, Alive After Five is one of the neat downtown Boise events. With live bands, food & drink and a fountain to accompany the hot weather, it provides a nice escape for downtown employees and fun for families from all over the Treasure Valley. The DBA has done a fantastic job with this event!

We are excited to announce that we will be back downtown on July 15, thanks to the Idaho Business Review. If you didn't get a chance to come down last night, we would love to meet you in July. And if you did come by and say hello, you are more than welcome to come back to the booth, shoot some hoops and win some more prizes!

Updating an update

We just received a "Tweet" from the Spokane Hoopfest - over 6,600 teams have registered! So our question is this: why not Boise? Can you imagine?

Here is a video that gives a glimpse of just how big this thing has gotten up north. And provides a road map as to where BAM Jam is heading.

Up in Spokane...

Just saw this about the Spokane Hoopfest, the world's largest 3 on 3 tournament -

So, if they were at 6,400 teams last year and now they are even bigger, does that mean they are going to hit 6,600? 6,700? Wow! Can you imagine having even just a fraction of this in Boise? Think how many people would be spending money downtown! Think about how much money we could donate to charity! Think about how much hoops this town would be playing! Let's do it!

By the way, if you are looking for BAM Jam updates via Twitter (similar to the Hoopfest version), check out the updates via the Idaho Select Twitter account, You can also search using the #bamjam search term.

Registration now open!

Are you ready for BAM Jam 2009? We are! Registration for this year's event is now open thanks to the hard work of Drake Cooper.

We got some great feedback from last year's tournament and to reflect that, we've added two new divisions: High School Elite (boys and girls) and Men's Over 40 divisions. It should be another fantastic year and now you have even more options.

What does it take to play in BAM Jam? It's pretty simple really. Just get 2 or 3 of your friends, co-workers, relatives or neighbors, pick a team name and get signed up. It only takes about 5 minutes and with the updated wizard, your registration is even easier.

That's it. That's all. That's pretty much everything. Click on the "Play" link at the top to get started...

Just In

Regence BlueShield Of Idaho is now an Official Sponsor of BAM Jam! Their support is helping make the August 7-8, 2009 event a success. Thank you!

It's us, I promise!

The BAM Jam blog is being itself. Through Technorati we are creating some additional exposure for our blog and for BAM Jam. Why am I putting this out there? To explain why I have to post the following item to "claim" ourself. Enter your philosophical jokes here.

Technorati Profile

BAM Jam court sponsors

Thanks to Helly Hansen and Jackson & Jackson for renewing their sponsorships early for this year's BAM Jam. And thanks to AAA of Idaho for getting on board with us. The 2009 event is growing, and that means that we will need more baskets, tape and supplies in general. It is because of great sponsors like these that we are able to handle these up front capital expenses. If you are interested in getting involved, please send an email to us at

AAA of Idaho,

An update on registering for 2009

The great news: it looks like BAM Jam is going to be able to once again work with Drake Cooper on website development. Understanding that there are always setbacks, our goal is to have 2009 registration available starting in mid-March. We are working to make the registration process even easier. This also includes volunteer sign ups.

In other news, all the city and county paperwork is going as planned. The more that we work with the different agencies, the more you really respect what they do. I thought that the Special Olympics went very well. Just think; in 10 years from now Boiseans are going to be able to say, "Yeah, I remember when we hosted a World Event". Pretty cool stuff.

Just a reminder, this year's BAM Jam will be on August 7-8, 2009.
