Tournament courts are in the heart of downtown Boise

In 2012, we moved Fast Eddy's BAM Jam's location to the heart of downtown Boise next to Capitol Park. And we haven't looked back since.

Tournament courts are all located right
in downtown Boise
The tournament location takes advantage of streets that are covered by trees and in the shade and Capitol Park, which is the ideal place to relax before and after your games. The park also features food vendors and some fun booths for your enjoyment.

Want to venture outside the tournament area? Downtown Boise has you covered. The tournament is located next to Old Boise, which features great shopping and dining. You can grab a sandwich at Jimmy Johns, a meal at The Reef or the Front Door or stop in to Pita Pit for a quick and healthy pita.

The tournament is also next to a farmer's market, showcasing some of the best local produce and products the area has to offer.

Once you are at the tournament, you really don't need to leave! Here's a Google map of the location.

Northwestern Mutual Center Court

If you are looking for all the top men's and women's Elite Division games, simply head for the Northwestern Mutual Center Court, grab a seat in the bleachers and enjoy. The court will run non-stop Saturday and Sunday with the best teams and athletes including several teams that have won the title both at BAM Jam in downtown Boise and in other 3 on 3 basketball tournaments around the northwest.

Slam Dunks and Long Bombs

Everyone loves a monster slam or timely 3-pointer. But in downtown Boise?

Yep!

Time is running out to register

Late registration ends this Friday
Here is a quick reminder that the last day of late registration for Fast Eddy's BAM Jam is this Friday, August 1, 2014. We will take registrations through the night. After that teams will have to be placed on a wait list. Click here to register.

Why don't we take registrations up until the tournament starts? Even though we've really got this bracketing thing down to a science (click here to read how we do it) the process takes a long time. It is kind of like doing a 300 piece jigsaw puzzle, except you aren't only trying to fit teams in to a space, you have to fit them in to time slots as well.

To register, go to www.bamjamboise.com/play and sign your team up from there. To see a few hints and tips on how to register efficiently, click here to read our tip sheet. Other than step 1 (which was intended for the normal registration timeframe) these pretty much all apply.

How are teams bracketed?

*This blog entry was originally posted in February of 2011. It has been updated

Teams are placed in brackets based
on the information they provide
A common question we get is "how are the teams bracketed?" Often, players are concerned that they will be placed in a bracket with players far better, much older/younger or less skilled then they are. Our goal is to create brackets that are balanced and fair to everyone in the bracket, based on the information that we are provided.

For youth and high school teams, the first step is to determine which grade they are as a team. Teams are considered to be in the grade of the player that is in the oldest grade. So if there is a player in the 7th grade and 2 in the 6th grade then that team is considered a 7th grade team. Ideally there are enough teams in the same grade to create bracket of the same grade teams. However, from time to time we have to combine two grades in to the same bracket, such as a 7th/8th grade bracket. Keep in mind that we will never combine teams that are more than one grade apart (ie a 9th grade team would not be in a 12th grade bracket). If there are enough teams in the same grade to have two brackets, teams are separated based on the experience factor listed by the players.

For adult brackets, the first separation occurs based on the division that teams elect to play for (recreational, competitive, elite). If there are enough teams to create multiple brackets in, say, the adult recreational division, we use age as the separating factor.

Keep in mind that it is absolutely impossible to create perfect brackets. We do the best that we can. All the brackets are based on the information that we are provided. And of course there is always the "get hot" factor, where a player that is normally average is "feeling it" during the tournament and performs better than expected (it goes the other way too). All in all, just remember that this is a community event, that the people working it are volunteers, the teams are all playing for t-shirts and come Monday we all have to go back to work!

Late registration will remain open until this Friday night so if you want to play, be sure to get your team registered by then. If the bracket you enter on the website lets you register, it means there should be room.

Register today by clicking here.

Youth basketball teams to take over BAM Jam

Youth basketball
Divisions available for youth
basketball teams
Each summer, Fast Eddy's BAM Jam hosts hundreds of youth basketball 3 on 3 teams in the 3rd-8th grades for boys and girls. Teams continue to come back each year to compete against old and new competitors and try to win the coveted Champions T-shirts.

Teams are divided into brackets based on the team member's highest grade level. The youth basketball teams will only compete against other teams that are the same grade or within one grade level of each other. For example, a 5th grade team won't compete against a 7th grade team.

Last summer we featured 9 youth basketball brackets, providing competitive play in a fun environment. Click here to see last summer's brackets.

The high school divisions (9th-12th grades) have also been very popular. Last year, teams from all over the northwest, including Alaska, competed in five different brackets with nearly 60 teams.

But you need to register ASAP. The late registration period closes this week and after that teams will not be able to register. Register your team by clicking here.

We need your help managing courts at BAM Jam

We are pleased to introduce Colby Blaine, who will be our Court Monitor Director for this summer's Fast Eddy's BAM Jam. He joins a great list of Court Monitor Directors that have done an excellent job during the previous 6 tournaments.

Colby is a Boise native and a graduate of Boise High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Western Montana and then his Master's in Athletic Administration from Idaho State. He is currently the assistant coach at the College of Idaho and has a lot of experience operating and managing basketball tournaments and camps.

Court Monitors will receive t-shirts, gear from STADIA Clothing, lunch both Saturday and Sunday from Pita Pit and Old Chicago, a parking pass to park at the event and you get to keep your court's basketball! Plus we provide complete court monitor training and support through out the event.

If you would like to send Colby a message, you can email him at cblaine35@gmail.com. Or you can register to become a court monitor at www.bamjamboise.com/volunteer.

Late registration is still available

If you still want to play in the Fast Eddy's BAM Jam on August 9-10, you may still be able to get in. The guaranteed deadline has passed and now we are in the late registration period but some brackets still have room for teams.

Register your team today!
If you go to register and the bracket you want to play in is still listed, you will probably still be able to get in. But some brackets are filling up.

*NOTE: if for some reason you are able to register but there is not room available, you will be notified ASAP and your money will be fully refunded.

Your best bet to get in? Register today. There will be 300 teams from around the northwest competing on the streets of downtown Boise. Don't miss out on the good times and great action!

Team Registration Check List And Hints For Success

Register your BAM Jam 3 on 3
basketball team today!
Here is a checklist of items that may help to get your team registered before the deadline:

  1. Mark your calendar for July 19 with "BAM Jam registration deadline". If its a digital calendar you can even set a reminder to go off a day or two before just to be safe.
  2. Visit www.bamjamboise.com and click PLAY
  3. Adult teams, decide what level of play you want: recreational, competitive or elite
  4. Talk to your teammates and get the following information from them: address, birthdate, cell phone number, email, height, playing experience and shirt size (adult sizes). Youth and high school teams will also need the grade they are going in to next fall.
  5. Credit card - yes, you have to pay to play!
  6. Submit the registration and look for your registration email. It will be sent to the Team Captain (Player 1) so that email needs to be accurate.
  7. If you end up on the "Thank You" page your registration should be good to go. But definitely make sure you receive the email.
If you do not receive an email, contact support@idahoselect.org with your team name, your name and when you signed up. We'll figure out what happened.

When registering, here are a couple of tips to make the process smoother.

  • Have all your team information ready before you begin.
  • Register from a desktop computer if possible. You can register from a smart phone or tablet, but we've found that if your signal bounces from one cell tower or WiFi hot spot to another it can interfere.
  • If you are registering from work, make sure that your internet is not behind a firewall. Usually, for the company's safety, firewalls prevent certain transactions.
  • Make sure that your browser is up to date. If you enter the players in and click NEXT and it scrolls to the top of the browser with no error, this could mean that your browser or some other component is out of date. To going to www.whatismybrowser.com for a quick check (we are not endorsing this website or the owner but it has helped others). It will do a quick check and let you know if something is out of date.
  • Do not wait until the last minute to register. Sometimes you may run in to unforeseen issues that prevent your registration from going through. Most of the time everything goes fine but you never know! Remember: there is a $25 late fee if your registration is done after July 19.
  • If you run in to issues, send an email to support@idahoselect.org. We are happy to help in any way that we can.
The 7th Annual Fast Eddy's BAM Jam continues to grow and already has registrations from teams in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada and Utah. Make sure you get in on all the action!

In fact, a couple of them have won both Hoopfest and BAM Jam in the same year (Chris Allen and Wade Joseph).

G Unit now holds championships
at Spokane Hoopfest, Summer
BAM Jam and Spring BAM Jam
And the Hoopfest high school elite division was also won by BAM Jam champions, G Unit. Team won the 2013 Summer BAM Jam, this past March they won the 2014 Spring BAM Jam and then went on to compete at the USA Basketball 3 on 3 National Championships. Now as defending Hoopfest champions they are clearly the team to beat this summer.

Spokane 3 on 3 basketball players, we would love to have you play in this year's BAM Jam! Guaranteed registration deadline is July 19 so be sure to get your team in today. Register by clicking here.

Seattle, Portland players invited to 3 on 3 basketball tournament

Fast Eddy's BAM Jam 3 on 3 basketball tournament is happy to invite basketball players from the Seattle, Washington and Portland, Oregon areas! Idaho's biggest 3 on 3 basketball tournament has had great representation from both the Seattle and Portland cities and encourages players of all ages and abilities to participate in this year's 3 on 3 basketball tournament on August 9-10, 2014 on the streets of Boise, Idaho.

Welcome Portland 3 on 3
basketball players!
BAM Jam is not only the biggest 3 on 3 basketball tournament in Idaho, it is the biggest street ball party in the Northwest. With over 300 teams and over 1,200 players heading to downtown Boise, BAM Jam has shown that its growth over the last seven years is no accident. Teams that travel in from Portland and Seattle are treated to an incredible weekend in one of the nicest "still to be discovered" cities in the northwest.

Comparing Seattle, Portland to Boise

By comparison, Boise is smaller than the Seattle and Portland populations (approximately 616,000 people live in the metro area) but still has a lot of the amenities you would find in a larger city. The tournament is third biggest 3 on 3 basketball tournament in the northwest and continues to grow each year.

To learn more about the great city of Boise and what it has to offer, the boise.org website is an excellent resource. Or you can just watch this YouTube video that gives you a great 2 minute overview.

The BAM Jam experience

Will a Seattle 3 on 3 basketball
team take home the 2014
BAM Jam Championship?
August in Boise is the perfect time for an outdoor 3 on 3 basketball tournament because the weather is warm and dry. The streets of downtown Boise provide the perfect location, with trees lining the sidewalks and Capitol Park located right next to the tournament.

Old Boise provides plenty of entertainment and food options between games if you want to leave the event area for awhile. Or stick around and enjoy the great eats provided by our food vendors. Street parking is free so spend the whole weekend downtown.

Saturday night is time for the official BAM Jam after party, definitely something the 20 and 30 somethings are always sure to attend.

Did you know that there is a Slam Dunk and 3-Point contest held on the steps of the state's Capitol Building? It is also located right next to the tournament.

To learn more about the tournament, visit our tournament information page by clicking here.

A great way to compare the 3 on 3 basketball tournament experience in Boise to Seattle and Portland is to take a look at some tournament pictures and the layout on a tournament map. Click here to see a custom Google map we built of the area, featuring more than just the courts.

The time is now to get your team registered for this year's Fast Eddy's BAM Jam 3 on 3 basketball tournament. Click here to register your team today.

3 on 3 basketball
Men's team - Northwestern Mutual
Congratulations to both of the men's and women's teams that competed this past weekend at the USA Basketball 3 on 3 National Championships at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Both Northwestern Mutual and BBA represented the northwest and its 3 on 3 basketball competitors admirably. The teams qualified for the national championships at the Fast Eddy's Spring BAM Jam this past March.

Both teams faced their share of adversity during the tournament. But the experience was a once in a life time opportunity. The women's team even had a front page feature on the www.usabasketball.com website. You can see photos from the National Championships on our Facebook page or by clicking here.

Elite Divisions And What It Takes To Compete

If you've ever wanted to show that you belong in the conversation with the best of the best, the Elite Divisions at Fast Eddy's BAM Jam are a great way to prove it.

For some players, the Elite divisions are intimidating. But for the players that are driven to compete against the top talent, you can find them in the Elite Division.

Elite games are featured on the main courts with officials
They may have been beaten in the past.

They may have won the tournament before.

But they all know that the only thing that matters is what you do this time. Everything else is old news.

Here is a list of the prizes that Elite teams receive (and the divisions it applies to):

  • Qualify for the USA Basketball 3x3 National Championships (Men's 6'0 Over Elite, Women's Elite, HS Boys Elite, HS Girls Elite)
  • Nike Dri-FIT Champion Shirts (All Elite Divisions)
  • Free Entry to this summer's Fast Eddy's BAM Jam (All Elite Divisions)
  • Gift card to Pro Image (Men's 6'0 Over Elite, Men's 6'0 Under Elite, Women's Elite)
  • Gift cards to STADIA Clothing (Men's 6'0 Over Elite, Men's 6'0 Under Elite, Women's Elite)
Even if you don't win, there are other benefits to playing in an Elite division such as:
  • Elite games have a certified official to call fouls
  • Elite games are featured on the main courts
  • Elite teams have a separate streamlined check-in area during team check-in
Be sure to get your team signed by midnight on Friday, March 14.

St. Luke's Know Your Numbers

St. Luke's Men's Health will be back at Fast Eddy's Spring BAM Jam with their "Know Your Numbers" program. The program is a great way to measure your athletic numbers including your vertical jump, broad jump, wing span, height and weight. Their expert medical staff will also measure your blood pressure, body mass index and resting heart rate.

This is a great way to establish a base set of measurements. Or for those that got measured last year it is a great way to check on your progress.

Registration is expected to fill up soon so if you would like to play we highly recommend registering your team ASAP!

Which design direction do you want on this spring's shirt?

Fast Eddy's Spring BAM Jam wants to give you the chance to vote on which direction you would like us to go for this spring's t-shirts.

For the last 5 years, Jason Martinez and The Martinez Method, has designed our shirts for the spring and summer tournaments, including the participant shirts and the champion's shirts.

It isn't easy coming up with new ideas every year but he always comes through.

For this spring, here are the two directions that we can go and we want you to pick. Vote each day through Sunday, March 2 at 5:00 PM Mountain Time. From there we will take the winner and create the final version of this spring's shirt.

Keep in mind that these are just sketches. The final creation will be a crisp two color version laid out on an actual shirt. Click on an image to enlarge.

Best Team Name Of All Time? You Decide!

This March 22-23 we will be hosting the 5th Annual Fast Eddy's Spring BAM Jam. Over the years the spring tourney has built a strong following, evolved in its format and provided fun for a variety of teams.

It has also provided a variety of team names that are creative and unique. Trendy, a play on words or just flat out descriptive of the team, the names are fair play as long as they are 20 letters or less (and are more or less family friendly).

Here is your chance to vote for your favorite team name that we've seen over the last four spring tournaments. The list started at over 500 and was narrowed down to 50. From there the BAM Jam staff selected their favorite 5. And now it is up to you to narrow it down to 1. Poll closes January 31.

Let us know what you think. And then try and come up with something better for your team this year. But don't delay...the spring tournament sells out every year and when the spaces are gone the registration will close.
