As directors, we are constantly faced with challenges that a growing event can create. This summer's Fast Eddy's BAM Jam is no exception.
One of the challenges was handling the increased number of teams that participate in the summer. The summer tournament has grown 30% each year since 2008 and last summer (2011) we hit our capacity in the BoDo neighborhood.
BoDo was great. But combining the increased number of teams, the lingering dangers of a major highway (Myrtle and Front Streets) and little shade from the August sun, we knew that a new location would be needed. And it would need to be somewhere that could sustain continued growth over the next 8-10 years.
New locations often mean new restrictions. After talking with our staff and various city and county agencies (such as the mayor's office, the DBA, Boise Police, ACHD) we selected the intersection of 6th Street and Bannock Street (click here to see the map) as our new home. However, since this was a high traffic area in the heart of downtown Boise, roads would not be able to be closed until 6:30 PM on Friday night to allow the normal flow of business. Therefore, since the tournament couldn't start on Friday, it would need to run Saturday and Sunday.
This was truly a difficult decision that we did not take lightly. Ultimately we felt it was the best way to continue to reach the tournament's goals: put on a first class event that our community can be proud and raise money for great local non-profit organizations. Plus, it provides access to beautiful Capitol Park, more accessible parking, a fantastic back drop to the Capitol Building and even more shops, restaurants and services in the Old Boise neighborhood.
You can still count on all the fun that BAM Jam has offered over the years. The majority of the action will be on Saturday including our Power Hour that features the Powerade Slam Dunk Contest and the ACHD Commuteride 3-Point Challenge.
And the fundraising continues. To date we have raised over $10,000 for local non-profits such as the Boys & Girls Club. We are again partnering with the Boys & Girls Club this year along with several high school programs. We will continue to run the event at the highest level and, in turn, provide a large economic impact for our community.

Idaho's biggest tourney moves
Fast Eddy's BAM Jam grows into new location
Below is the press release that was sent out on May 31 regarding the tournament's new location~~~~~~~~~~
Boise, IDAHO - Idaho Select Basketball has opened registration and released the dates of this year's Fast Eddy's Summer BAM Jam. The 3 on 3 basketball tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 4-5 in downtown Boise. The tournament is for any player of any ability. More information is available at www.bamjamboise.com. Additionally, the organization has announced that the tournament will be held in a new part of downtown Boise.
This summer the tournament will be held in a completely new location. Previously, the center of Fast Eddy's Summer BAM Jam was located at 8th Street and Broad Street in the BoDo area. This summer, the center of the tournament will be at 6th Street and Bannock Street. The tournament will span 8 city blocks.
The move was required as a result of the large influx of teams over the last four years. The tournament has grown nearly 30% per year since 2008 and is anticipating hosting nearly 450 teams from around the Northwest this summer. To see a map of the new event, visit www.bamjamboise.com/location
"The Fast Eddy's Summer BAM Jam tournament has had rapid, sustained growth since 2008, and the new location will help organizers continue to expand the tournament," Mayor David Bieter said. "A livable city must have opportunities to get active, and Fast Eddy's BAM Jam is a prime example. It's basketball for all ages and abilities, it's family friendly and it's fun to see our streets transformed into basketball paradise for players and spectators."
The new location near Old Boise will provide access to Capitol Park, more convenient parking and more eating and shopping options for all those involved.
"Being in Old Boise is a slam dunk and we are thrilled to be partnering with Fast Eddy's BAM Jam this summer. We know that the players, spectators and volunteers will love the amenities that our neighborhood has to offer," said Clay Carley of Old Boise. "Go to www.oldboise.com to see all the dining, shopping, entertainment and services available from the local merchants."
While the location of the tournament has changed, the goal of Fast Eddy's Summer BAM Jam remains the same: operate a first class event that the Treasure Valley can be proud and give back to local non-profit organizations. In the past 4 years Fast Eddy's BAM Jam has donated over $10,000 to worthy local organizations.

Hoopfest is underway and Spokane is the beneficiary
We finished up Friday with a volunteer session for checking in the Hoopfest Court Monitors. With nearly 650 Court Monitors registered to work Saturday and Sunday, their team has the check in system completely dialed in from training to getting the monitors their gear to making sure they have everything they need from whistles to sunscreen.
From there we took a quick walk around downtown as the logistics team gets their set up preparation done. It is incredible how the entire town gets behind this tournament. From the city letting Hoopfest store their baskets in city storage, to staging the night before to rearranging the city transit schedule and bus routes, Spokane has completely bought in. They even let them banner the downtown light posts and put up speakers on every street! The city's reward? An estimated $39 million in additional revenue during the weekend generated specifically by Hoopfest.
Saturday, the first official day of Hoopfest couldn't have gone better for the BAM Jam crew. The day started with a ride on their modified city transportation. Normally, a day pass on their transit system costs $3.50. During Hoopfest it is just $1.50 and in 10 minutes you can get all the way downtown.
The first shift starts at 8:00 AM with a volunteer session at the data entry center. The Hoopfest bracketing/tournament results are completely digital. They strive to have all brackets updated within about 10 minutes of the score sheets being turned in. This is quite a challenge with 485 brackets and sheets coming in every 30 minutes. We had 10 volunteers entering game results into their custom made software and were able to keep up. All the results are available online and they added a mobile application this year. Next year they plan to add text messaging as well.
The BAM Jam Boise Dot Com team also did very well. They are competing in the Elite Division and were ranked #2 this year after finishing second last year. Their first two games were on the Nike Center Court and went 2-0 to finish the day. While the offense was OK it was their defense that proved to be most effective. Sunday they open against another Treasure Valley team at 10:00 AM (Pacific Time). If they win their first three games they will be back in the final four. A loss and they'll have to battle through the losers bracket.
Several Treasure Valley teams are still in the hunt for this year's Hoopfest title including Still OC (Keegan Cook), Gates of Hope (Joel Ryman), STADIAdotcom (Ryan McCarthy and Wade Joseph), Wheatland Bank (Cory Violette and Dan Mcfaul) and BodyBuildingdotcom (Booker Nabors) along with BAM Jam Boise dotcom (Matt Bauscher, Clint Hordemann, Jon DeWolfe and Paul Noonan). But the defending champs, Tonicx (David Pendergraft), is still alive and takes on Wheatland Bank first thing Sunday morning.
And of course don't forget that BAM Jam will take place in Boise on August 5-6 where you can see or even compete against some of these same players.

Team Captains! Please read
Just a reminder, if you are the team captain (Player 1 on the registration form) you should receive a team verification email. It is absolutely critical that you review the information in this email and make any corrections necessary.
The most important items: be sure that your team is in the correct age group (youth, high school or adult), gender (male, female or co-ed), team height (N/A for youth, 6'0 and under, 6'0 and over) and division (youth, recreational, competitive or elite).
From there be sure that your team members all meet the requirements of your division (if you are in a high school division all players should be in high school, if you are in a co-ed gender bracket you should have at least one boy or girl, if you are 6'0 and under everyone should be under 6'0, etc.)
This is so important because this is how we bracket all teams. What may seem like a simple typo could affect the teams you play against. We rely on your accuracy to evenly match up teams.
If you see a mistake, simply respond to the email with the corrections. We'll take if from there.
If you have not received a verification email (it should be sent to you within 10 minutes of completing your registration) please send an email to service@idahoselect.org with your team name, captain's name and captain's email address.
Other information that is important: Player's 2-4 email addresses (BAM Jam does all communication through email so this should be accurate) and team t-shirt sizes.
Other notes: if you need to add/delete/change a player you can do so via the "PLAYER CHANGE" form available under the "Play" link on the main page.
The normal registration deadline is March 5. However, we are currently on pace to sell out early so if you are considering getting a team in, you may want to register ASAP. The Fast Eddy's BAM Jam is March 13 at Taco Bell Arena.

Thank You!

With the 2009 BAM Jam completed and a day to reflect on the event, there is no doubt that this community is the best!
First, thanks to all the volunteers that made this happen. While there are too many to recognize individually, it took a huge effort from all of the BAM Jam operational units. The set up crew was amazing and their creative solutions to a wet set up were crucial. We know you are probably still soaked to the bone! The check in team at Piper Pub, Jacksons/Fast Eddy's Master Scoreboard, volunteer check in, BAM Jam Lounge in the 8th Street Mareketplace, court monitors and marshals, medical and hydration stations, the BAM Jam Store, Regence BlueShield Information booth, LeMaster Daniels contest courts, tear down and clean up crews and our booth set up teams were incredible. Your time, energy and passion were vital to the event's success!
Second, the BAM Jam sponsors were crucial to making this happen. To those that were on board from the start last year and the new sponsors that joined us this year, your support and assistance allowed this great event to take place.
And of course, thank you to all the participants that hung in there through the early rain and finished in the bright beautiful sunshine! You did amazing and, regardless of your final record, you are all champions just for finishing. We look forward to improving this event for you next year (August 6-7) and continuing to make BAM Jam an event you can be proud of!
